Looking for a smart makeup brush holder idea? DIY one! This version is so simple…and you might just be surprised what makes it work so well!
Isn’t EASY wonderful?
Life can really be complicated, and for those who are like me – sometimes we make it that way.
So a few weeks ago while I was getting ready one morning, I thought how nice it would be if I had something easy to put my makeup brushes into instead of the travel bag I stored them in.
The travel bag worked just fine keeping them clean, but I always had to dig around to find the right one and I wasn’t so sure it was the best treatment for great brushes that have the potential to last a long time.
I thought it would be good to stand them upright instead. That’s when I remembered this little jar:
I picked it up at a thrift store for a whopping dime for a fall project last year.
After it had served its purpose, I added it to my collection of empty vases and that’s where it sat for over a year.
Until that morning when it was called into service again.
But just plopping the brushes into the jar wouldn’t work.
For one thing, most of them were too short. Plus, I wanted to be able to grab the right one at a glance without fumbling around through them all.
Then I thought of the perfect thing –
Yep – dry beans. Pouring some dry beans into the bottom of the jar gave the brushes something to rest in that would keep them both stable and separated.
Easy in. Easy out.
Simple is good!
Simple – but not plain. So a quick couple of coats of spray paint and a sealer gave this plain glass jar a little feminine personality, and I was good to go!
(By the way, it’s always a good idea to swipe glass surfaces with rubbing alcohol before painting, just to remove any finger oils or tiny dust particles.)
Now my cute little ten cents jar doesn’t have to collect dust on the shelf anymore.
I just love it when something old gets a new life. Don’t you?
