Did you know you can DIY with Coca-Cola? Well I didn’t until I was invited to join a Coca-Cola creative project challenge.
Did you know you can DIY with Coca-Cola?
Well, I didn’t.
Until my friend, Carole, from Garden Up Green contacted me and asked if I’d like to join in for a creative challenge using Coca-Cola as the theme.
Of course I said yes because…who doesn’t like a creative challenge, right?
I gave it some thought for more than a few days, but couldn’t come up with a thing.
Until the day I was in Hobby Lobby browsing fabric for this project and my eyes fell on – could it be?
Decision made: this would be another fabric project.
I thought of several possibilities, and then the music came, ya’ll.
I remembered a set of
cute outdated fall placemats I picked up at the thrift store months ago. At the time, I thought I’d probably end up painting them, but as often happens, plans changes.
Let’s Get Started
I hope you’re not too cozy because this is fast and simple and we’re almost already finished – really!
Start by lying the placemat face down on the fabric, trace around the edges, then cut the fabric and set aside.
By the way, these aren’t the vinyl, flexible type of placemat. They’re nice and rigid with a cork backing.
And once cost $9.99 each!
Can you believe that?
I got them for $3.oo for the set of four.
Shop your thrift stores, friend!
Give the front a good coating of Mod Podge,
then, top it with the fabric.
Here’s bit of good news if you’re straight-cutting challenged. The fabric gives a little and you can tug it right to the edge if you need to. You can also trim any excess off the sides before it dries.
Just make sure you rinse your scissors right away.
And dry them. 🙂
I didn’t bother letting it dry before adding the top coat of Mod Podge, which I also swiped along the edges for a good seal.
This leaves you with a nice, waterproof surface that makes cleaning spills a breeze.
And what’s a table without a centerpiece?
I found these bright red flowers marked down 60% at Michael’s and snagged a little Coca-Cola bottle from Tony’s truck and…instant centerpiece.
Simple and perfect for picnics on the patio or deck this spring.
(And no one ever has to know there’s
cute outdated pumpkins hiding under there!) 🙂
Be sure to visit everyone else and see what they came up with too.
