This little DIY inspirational sign is fast, fun, and a nice way to tell someone – or a lot of someones – just how special they are to you.
Do you remember when you were a kid and your birthday seemed surreal?
At least that’s how it was for me. It was almost like magic.
Well, it isn’t so much like magic anymore, and they seem to be happening a lot more frequently than they did back then.
This week I celebrated another one. While I didn’t exactly float on a cloud all day, it was a wonderful day because of a lot of really wonderful people who texted, called, sent birthday wishes, and helped me celebrate.
It made me realize all over again just how blessed I am to have so many wonderful people in my life.
And when all those warm feelings of gratitude are stirring around, there’s bound to be a creative way to express them.
DIY Inspirational Sign
I love these little signs because they’re a perfect way to share a little warm sentiment with someone special.
They come together in less than an hour too, so you can make lots of them for all of the wonderful people in your life.
They’d also make a great tree ornament for Christmas, or gift tags on bags and boxes, or even just a fun trim for a tote bag.
Make them small or large, in different colors and text fonts, with whatever message you can imagine…this just may be the ultimate customizable DIY project.
You only need a few basic supplies for these cute little signs, and if you can’t find exactly what I have here, that’s no problem at all.
I recommend starting with beads. Find a few coordinating strands that you like, then choose some matching paints.
You’ll also need:
- wooden craft rectangles
- stencils of your choice (words and/or letters; you can also add image stencils too.)
- foam brush
- stencil brush
- 22 gauge jewelry wire
- drill and bit
Start by giving the sign a base coat of paint. I only used a single coat and it dried quickly.
Once it’s dry, you can add your stencils.
I found these really neat adhesive stencils that I’m probably going to be hooked on now.
No need to tape the edges down or worry about the stencil slipping while you work. They stick right on, but the best part is that they’re easy to remove when you finish. Just give them a good rinse once you’re done, and they’ll be ready to go for the next project.
I wanted to keep my sign simple – like a little warm whisper. You could go so many ways with this though, adding as many stencil or paint elements as you like.
When you’re finished with the message, drill a couple of holes in the top corners.
Then add the wire and beads.
I ran a length of wire through one hole and secured the end, then added a few beads, twisted a few rings into the wire, then repeated until I was happy with the length.
To finish, I ran the second end through the other hole and gave it a twist to secure.
These little DIY inspirational signs are fast and fun and a nice way to tell someone – or a lot of someones – just how special they are to you.
