No time for time-consuming and complicated projects? Try these 5 quick and simple ways you can be creative – perfect single-session creative projects.
Do you ever want to do something creative, but don’t have time for a long or complicated project?
Or maybe you really want to finish something in a single session instead of adding another work-in-progress to your collection?
Quick and simple projects are perfect for when you’re time crunched, or want the satisfaction of seeing a project from start to finish. They’re also great go-to projects for whipping up quick gifts.
No matter your reason, there’s plenty ways to get your hands into something creative without investing a lot of time or effort.
Here’s 5 Quick and Simple Ways You can be Creative:
1. Light some candles.
What is it about candles that immediately make the ordinary special? When our kids were young, they considered it a wonderful treat to have dinner by candle light. These same people think they make it too hard to see their food now. 🙂
I’m still a huge candle fan though – whether at the table or just around the house. It’s so quick and easy to grab a few candles and glass holders from the dollar store to add that gorgeous gentle glow around your home.
If you want a little more than basic, you can easily dress up a plain votive holder with spray paint and adhesive stickers. Press the stickers onto the holder, then spray paint over the entire surface. Once the paint dries, carefully remove the stickers for better-than-basic candle holders. Here’s a set I made last Christmas.

2. Update a tired basket with craft paint.
Paint is pretty much my crafting BFF. The investment return is high because it makes a huge impact with minimal effort.
You probably already have a basket or two around your house that could use some sprucing up. Hitting them with some paint is quick, easy, and totally transformational. Check out my plain boring basket that now sports a faux gild paint update.
3. Add some creative flair to plain hanging planters.
You know the ones I’m talking about – those plain, ugly planters nearly every gorgeous nursery plant comes tucked into. I’ve yet to understand why this is done, but I think a beautiful plant deserves a beautiful home.
Here’s how I dressed up a plain summer hanging planter with beads and wire.
4. Decoupage it!
There’s a reason Mod Podge has been around for 51 years. It can dress up nearly anything.
It doesn’t take long to brush a layer onto wood, metal, plastic, glass, or cardboard, then spruce right up with a gorgeous new layer. When you’re finished, add a second coat to seal, shine, and/or protect your new finish.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are decoupage projects for jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, furniture, lamps, picture frames, and more – and many of them are true quick and easy projects.
5. Change most anything with spray paint.
Where would we be without spray paint?
It’s the ultimate quick change artist for anything that needs a new face. It’s also why I can easily ignore the finish on an exciting thrift store find. Paint can fix it!
I’ve totally lost track of everything I’ve spray painted and lots of projects have never even earned a blog post, but here’s a couple that really showcase the power of the paint can:
