Over the past week, I’ve spent as much free time as I could in the Bluprint library.
When I clicked over and read, “Get lost in what you love”, I’ve apparently taken that seriously because I have loved every single minute of the time I’ve spent in Bluprint!
This week I dug into several classes and found 4 favorites (plus an unexpected extra one I really needed!)
Craft and Create with Your Cricut Explore
You may know I have a Maker, not an Explore machine. But when I discovered that Bluprint offers 16 different videos for Cricut, I had to check them out to see if could learn some new things.
Other than the advanced capabilities of the Maker, there’s enough similarities between the two models that some information works equally as well for both.
And, yes, I did learn some new things – especially in Design Space, the online design canvas for Cricut projects.
Of course I couldn’t watch without making something! Using a sample project from one of the lessons, I made my own personalized tea mug.
I love it, and have been using it all week. Plus, I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it from my family, who wondered where I bought a mug with my favorite phrase. 🙂
Bluprint offers 16 Cricut classes and episodes, so if you’re a new Cricut owner (or want-to-be owner), you can quickly be on the fast track to learning just how amazing this machine is.
Simply Stunning Art Journals
Although I’ve had experience with written journals and even nature journals with my kids, I’ve never even known about the concept of an art journal. Boy, have I been missing out!
Art journals are all about papers and paints, which captivated me from the moment I watched the trailer.
Starting with blank facing pages, an art journal is made by adding a unique background of patterned paper and acrylics or tissue paper and a gesso wash. I learned new paper techniques in this section, and it opened up some fun and new creative technique possibilities.
Next, it’s time to add a second layer for texture and dimension using a variety of medium possibilities. As you can imagine, this provides so many opportunities for variety. You need never make two pages the same – unless that’s what you want to do.
Finally, the focal point of the pages are added from originally created designs. Once you’re finished, you’ll have a uniquely designed page expressing your creative interpretation of any topic you choose.
And then you have plenty pages left for your next inspiring work.
I love this class because it really gives you a wide range of ways to be artistically expressive – even if you aren’t particularly “artistic”.
Of course I didn’t explore all the courses and not find a crochet class to check out!
It’s been less than a year since my introduction to this fascinating crochet form, which, by the way, turns out to actually be the foundation of what we know as basic crochet today!
Freeform is a wonderfully creative style of crochet that requires no pattern or instructions.
From the class I learned that there are a few general guidelines, but they’re intended to help your project look it’s very best. Specifically, you want to work in a way that each piece lies flat and doesn’t curl or ruffle, and you want to be very intentional about the color combinations you choose.
Beyond that, it’s…freeform!
The basis of freeform, scrumbles, are individual motifs that are attached together to create a fabric that can then be used for a beautiful project.
Freeform might just be my next crochet passion. I absolutely love this style!
Paper Flower Workshop
Did you know you can make gorgeous paper flowers from crepe paper?
And these aren’t average-looking paper flowers either; they’re stunning!
Using different colors and types of crepe paper (some double-sided) and templates provided with the class materials, you can learn to make a variety of flowers including a wild rose, peony, Icelandic poppy, ranunculus, floribunda rose, and air plant.
The final lesson teaches how to beautifully arrange them for an absolutely stunning display.
These flowers look amazingly real. The key, of course, is in the details, and this class leaves out none of them.
The project is detailed, and takes time and attention, but the results are so worth the effort.
Bonus: Cardio and Strength Tutorials 101
Although not specifically a hands-on creative class, this is one I chose to try out as well.
I loved it because it’s quick, concise and – best of all – visually teaches the correct form for 10 of the most common strength training techniques.
If you know much about fitness, you know that form makes all the difference between successful muscle tone or not. One of the best ways to determine that is whether or not you feel sore for a few days after your first lesson.
I can tell you with much certainty that these exercises worked for me! 🙂
While not a complete fitness program, this class helps you master the basics for building arm, leg, and core strength, giving you a solid foundation for a more advanced fitness routine.
I’m Just Getting Started
