If you want to thrift shop like a pro, you need a hack – or ten! In this series, I share my ten best hacks so you can shop like a PRO!
In the third post of this series, we talked about making a list.
So when I tell you all about this latest hack, don’t think I’ve changed my mind. Making lists is one I depend on a lot and a key strategy to finding the good stuff.
Because what’s considered the “good stuff” by one person, might not necessarily be so for another. That list makes all the difference.
But, there’s a little caveat about that hack – you can’t stick to it like glue – because if you do, you’ll miss this one:
Hack Number 4
Keep an open mind!
Does that sound like a total contradiction?
Well, not really if you use them together.
Here’s the tweak:
Don’t be so committed (a.k.a. laser-focused) to your list that you walk right past something fabulous and totally miss it.
Maybe you don’t operate that way, but some of us thrifting hounds chase scents and can blow right past a really good find while searching for something on our lists.
That’s the hack in a nutshell.

How to Snag the Unexpected
During one of my thrifting trips, I had my list ready and was looking for specific pieces. But I was also scanning for anything that looked mildly interesting. If it has potential, I’ve learned to bring it home.
And this little piece caught my eye.
It was perfect – not for burning those dusty candles, but for a cute organizational piece.
I brought it home and went right to my pantry. I was pretty sure a food can would fit inside those candle sleeves quite nicely and after a paint update, I could use it for organizing some of my craft supplies.
Next, I chose some pretty paints,
and gave each piece a new look.
Once assembled, my organizational heart was beating happy because this is the perfect piece to hold all kinds of paint brushes!
And here’s the thing – I’m totally certain that if I had been looking for only what was on my list, I would have totally missed this piece.
So keep an open mind when you shop and up your thrift shopping game on your very next trip!
